used to, be used to / 〜したものだ、慣れている ----English memo
よく混乱しがちなこの２つ
I'm often confused these two words ↓↓
・used to
・be used to
同じ単語使わないで頂きたいわ😩
I hope not to use similar words at the same time.
ネイティブにとっては普通の事でも
Many Japanese people can't understand the meaning when we just hear it
耳が日本人の私たちには一瞬 「？？？ 」ってなります笑
if it is normal for native English speaker, haha
①【used to = よく〜したものだ (だったものだ)】
→助動詞 なので to の後ろは動詞の原形
ex）
●昔はよく古着着てたけど今は着なくなったな💁♀️
I often used to wear old clothes, but now I almost don't wear them any longer.
→以前はしていた習慣が、現在はしていない様子。
趣味恰好は変わるからね🤔
＊カジュアルな会話の返答として
「前はね、」みたいな感じで I used to だけでも使う🙆♀️
●以前はここに小学校あったのにな、
There used to be an elementary school.
習慣ではなくただ単に現在と違う状況。
母校なくなるのは悲しいよね、、、
②【be used to = 〜するのに慣れている】
to は前置詞なので to の後は 名詞 or 動名詞!
= be accustomed to
ex）
●日本の湿気には慣れている
I'm used to humidity in Japan.
I'm accustomed to humidity in Japan.
●私はこのMacbookを使うのに慣れていない
I'm not used to using this Macbook.
I'm not accustomed to using this Macbook.
＊因みに「慣れる」 は get used to
●彼は早く海外の習慣に慣れる必要がある
He needs to get used to custom in a foreign country early.
私は早く英語に慣れてペラペラになりたい😼
I wanna get used to speaking English and to be fluent as soon as possible.
